Upcoming RetailTouch Features*
December 2010
Here is a selection of just some of the exciting new
features planned for future releases of RetailTouch...
-
Web Services:
RetailTouch
will use Web Services for exchanging data between
PCs, for maximum reliability and data integrity.
Other systems use standard networking, where
"memory" data can be lost if a PC loses power before
writing it to disk (or if Internet/VPN comms have
issues). Reliable data exchange between PCs is
critical, whether between 2 PCs at a store, or for
control from a home PC, or between Head Office and
branch stores. While
RetailTouch
only needs occasional brief access to a common PC
(see
"Better core design for POS" below), this
upgrade to Web Services, as used by large corporates,
is certainly better. It also demonstrates
RetailTouch's on-going drive for excellence and state-of-the-art
development, far ahead of other systems.
-
Conditional Discounts for Account Customers:
Promotions and discounts are typically used as
customer incentives and apply immediately. However
for account customers they should depend on the
account being paid on time.
RetailTouch's
upcoming Conditional Discounts option is perfect for
this, providing the incentive to buy and also pay on
time. The invoice, and optionally the statement,
shows the terms and discount, which
RetailTouch
applies automatically if paid on time (or within an
optional Grace Period) - ie. it's easy to use and
control. Other
RetailTouch
options allow for a penalty if paid late and/or
surcharges at POS for higher-cost cards.
-
Electronic Shelf Labels: This technology is
becoming more cost-effective and ABS regularly
checks current offerings. Europe's leading provider
now has a local office and ABS prefers their
technology (wireless broadcast) to ones previously
assessed in Australia (fluoro-pulse, wired). Stores
with significant perishables losses can consider
Electronic Shelf Labels in those areas, to
facilitate progressive price drops as expiry
approaches (maximise returns rather than 1 large
reduction and possible wastage).
-
Portable Units: In addition to the currently
interfaced batch-update portable units (scan items,
or load
RetailTouch
data for shelf verify), ABS is interfacing to
several cost-effective portable units (scan & print
for price mark-downs; wireless network to
compare/update live data).
Recent New Features
December 2010
We are proud to announce the latest version of
RetailTouch
(Version 10) is now available.
The following are some exciting new features available:
-
Live Deals (Deals on the fly):
RetailTouch
will automatically bundle all types of specials
and mix & match promotions, as items are
scanned, in any order in a sale, for example:
- Buy any 2 of a product group
- Buy any 1 of one group and any 1 of another
group
- Buy 1 get 1 free
This unique and excellent feature also allows
combinations, multiples/or-more quantities, and
"over-lapping" deals, eg. a Coke + Chips in one
Deal, and Any 2 Chips in another Deal, and even
Any 3 x 600ml Drinks in another Deal - and
RetailTouch
will automatically select the best combinations.
With other systems this would be difficult to
manage but with
RetailTouch
it's easy, and gives customers real incentives
to buy a bit more - which means more sales and
bottom-line profit. This feature alone makes
RetailTouch
the best choice for your POS!
-
Unit Pricing: Customers like this feature
(as seen in larger supermarkets), where shelf
labels show an item's current price and its
price per standard measure, eg. $ per 100 g, 100
ml, 100 items or each - to help decide between
brands or sizes.
RetailTouch
stores of any type now also have this option, to
use as required.
-
Supplier Orders:
RetailTouch
has always had excellent suggested order tools
such as min/max quantities, import from portable
scanners, and top-up (replace items sold since
last order). It now also has a refined tool for
products with a short shelf life (eg. bakery or
heated food) and considers recent sales (eg.
same-day-last-week, or selected-date) and
missed-opportunity sales (eg. ran out
mid-afternoon). The combination provides smart
auto-ordering, for the desirable balance of
availability (display, service, impluse) without
over-stocking (maintenance, cash flow,
superseded). Deliveries can also be brought into
stock, and edited later, eg. when a supplier's
invoice is confirmed.
-
Customer Quotes/Orders:
RetailTouch
has always had flexible quotes, customer orders
and laybys, and these have now been enhanced to
provide more options for promotions, competitive
pricing and incentive discounting, with strong
margin control, eg. discounting by a percentage
of GP rather than off retail, or as a markup on
cost.
-
Operator Logs: These have been enhanced
to track additional actions, to help a store
owner with loss detection and prevention, and to
assess security and performance.
-
Scalability:
RetailTouch's
unique and advanced design (see
"Better core design for POS" below) makes it simple, reliable
and very cost-effective to expand, whether to
add one or more PCs (in-store, or a home PC for
convenience, or a laptop for mobile control), or
for a Head Office and branch stores. This
scalability is being regularly enhanced, in new
versions and with the upcoming Web Services
option.
-
Modifiable POS layouts:
RetailTouch
has always had this unique and highly desirable
feature, which is constantly being enhanced to
ensure
RetailTouch's
many new features are supported, whether new
options and commands (as new buttons added to a
current POS layout) or to simplify POS (eg. move
less-used buttons to a sub-panel, re-arrange
panels/buttons, improve size, colour, captions),
or add a number-pad if upgrading to a
touch-screen (easier/faster to serve customers)
or an auto-fill panel (auto-displays active
items in a dept or group; no manual editing
needed). Stores also like being able to do this
themselves, without tech support costs.
-
Support Options: In addition to annual
Software Maintenance (annual program update,
after-hours emergency phone support, priority
response, discounted office-hours support, short
office-hours calls free), ABS now offers an
add-on Premium Support option to cover
office-hours support calls (from $120/mth,
quarterly in advance, please call for details).

ABS welcomes the RAA as a new customer
November 2010
RAA required a fast and user-friendly POS system for its
7 main stores in Adelaide, with central Head Office
control of products, prices and promotions. After
extensive evaluation RAA selected
RetailTouch, with its efficient real-time
Multistore control, fast and simple POS, and ability to
interface with their Head Office IT systems. Being
selected by such a prominent and professional
organisation is an excellent endorsement of the quality,
power and ease-of-use of
RetailTouch.
RetailTouch
- Better core design for POS
RetailTouch
maximises
the ability to continue serving customers, with correct
products, prices, promos, points, balances, etc. Each
POS is self-contained and only needs occasional brief
access to other PCs to synchronise data. Other systems
cannot match this, since they need constant access to a
main PC, or the Internet for "cloud" computing. Other
systems also need "procedures" in case of issues,
whereas
RetailTouch
synchronising is automatic.
RetailTouch's
unique and advanced design is ideal for POS, and also
makes it simple to expand, since (unlike other systems)
it uses the same proven and efficient method to link 2
or many PCs, in one or many locations.
